What I Wore & How I Styled It - New York Fashion Week 2014

There are 2 major events that not only turn the fashion industry but all of New York City upside down and I'm not talking about this blizzard. Mercedes Benz Fashion Week happens twice a year and everyone from celebrities and wholesalers to bloggers and college student plan their lives around events during these weeks. Fashion shows, fashion presentations, after parties, and even walking down the street is time to network during New York Fashion Week.
Being so new to the city (6 months in to my New York residency :D) I thought, I'm lucky to walk down the street and experience the amazing street style that emerges during this time. Fortunately due to my job and a few other people I've met these past months I was able to attend some events!
One event I attended was the Rag & Bone After Party at Up & Down. I currently work at Rag & Bone therefore it was appropriate to wear something from the new Spring/Summer collection.
This is what I wore and how I styled it - I wore the navy Rag & Bone Long Sleeve Basha Dress with a black Rachel by Rachel Roy Pony Hair and Leather Jacket. I accessorized with layering a long Francesca's Collections Cross Necklace with a simple gold Gorjana Griffin Necklace, black opaque tights, black oxford wedges and a navy beret. OH and before I forget the best part I topped everything off with my mom's silver fox coat from the 80's.

The other event I was fortunate enough to attend was the Steven Alan Presentation. A presentation is different from a fashion show in the sense that the models stand in one spot and you are able to walk around them to observe the garments. I've provided a picture below from the Steven Alan Presentation.

Since this was a day time event I went a bit more casual, as it seemed most fashion week goers did.
This is what I wore and how I styled it - I wore Madison Scotch High-Waisted Jeans with a very small cuff at the ankle, a sheer vintage grey Banana Republic Button-Up Blouse, and the same black Rachel by Rachel Roy Pony Hair and Leather Jacket from before. I accessorized with a black and gold Kate Spade Metro Watch, 1960's cube earrings from an amazing vintage site, Rusty Zipper, and my classic black oxford wedges.

A new city calls for a new blog, right?

Only July 27th, 2013 I left the vast lands of Indiana and moved to possibly one of the most well known islands this world has ever know, New York City. Did Jay-Z and Alicia Keys pop into your head? Any who this is not a light choice or an easy transition to say the least. When people say New York can break you, they mean it.
So you just graduate college and your on this high horse of I have a degree! I'm an adult! I'm moving to New York City! I'm gonna land a kick ass job! All these things will come, just not right now. Yes, I was one of these girls that had a delusion that once I moved out of the mid-west life would fall perfectly into place. la de la de la. First off it takes a good 3 weeks to get used to walking..EVERYWHERE. Second to get a job here you need EXPERIENCE or know someone in the company. (I'm still working on how to get experience in a field where they don't hire with out experience..?) Third, my skin had taken a real plummet since it met the city.

So how do you adjust to the city?
1. All those super cheap shoes from Forever 21 that are so so cute but kill your feet, might as well donate those before you even move. You will come to hate them with the deepest passion.
It sucks, but you get what you pay for and comfortable shoes in this city are priceless. OH! I almost forgot! Dr. Scholls need to also become your best friend. Duane Reade will hook you up.
2. Personally, I'm still working on this one. My strategy is still working it's self out however, I oped for an awesome retail job while I figure out how to dazzle my future employers. I landed a great sales associate position with a luxury brand, Rag & Bone. If your struggling to find a job retail for a luxury brand isn't half bad. Great benefits and the pay is better then most places.
3. My skin! Oh my skin! I think my face ages like 5 years after 2 months of living here. It's dry, its oily, and it's tired. Luckily, I found a miracle that literally cost less then $10 at my local vitamin shop. Castor Oil is amazing! I know what your thinking, 'You put oil on your face?' I'm telling you it is the best face wash I've ever used. The castor oil breaks down the oils your face produces along with moisturizes. My skin is softer, fuller, and amazingly clear. I just wet my face, pour about a quarter size into my hands and massage it on my face for about 30 seconds-1minute. Then just wipe off with a wash cloth. No other facial moisturizer is needed after.  Castor oil can also be used to sooth aching muscles or joints, and as a body cleanse when ingested. (if you do the cleanse get castor oil for internal use)
